Jeff and I took a nice relaxing week off from work last week. It felt great! A week is just enough time to forget about the silly stresses of work and to also remember why you need to take a break!
Sunday and Monday were our typical days off so we just relaxed around the house and went through our things in the basement. Tuesday we took a drive to good ol' Worcester, MA. We unloaded an SUV full of house junk and donated it to the Salvation Army. That sure did feel good. We estimated that we donated about $300 worth of crap. Luckily for us they took it all!
We then drove out to watch a movie: G.I. Joe. After the movie we did some shopping. (Walmart, Lowes, Bed Bath & Beyond, a picture framing place and The Wine Vine!) We then drove a bit more and had a very nice dinner at The Citizen. http://www.thecitizenwinebar.com/ It was very good! (same owners as 'Block 5' - a restaurant we went to with Mrs. Arnholt and Jeff's brother Chris a few years ago!)
Wednesday and Thursday were both cloudy days with threatening rain so we stayed at the house (which we never mind doing).
Friday morning we took off to Maine! We drove to Kennebunkport and enjoyed a delicious lunch at Federal Jack's Brew Pub. We were in the seafood mood and ordered our traditional calamari for appetizers. We also enjoyed the steamers, a nice salad, and New England clam chowda'. We have to try the chowda' at each place we go... still searching for the best! Oh and we tasted the restaurant's own locally made beer.
After lunch we needed to walk off the full bellies so we walked around the local the shops. Very cute!
Just a block away was the Scenic Lobster Boat Tour! We braved the waves and had an hour & a half ride out into the ocean. We got to see where President Bush (both of them) spend their summer. I was impressed that the place had a wind turbine (not in picture) and solar panels! The Bush Compound:
We learned all about lobster fishing, er uh, catching and we even saw some Harbor seals! I took a short video. You can see their heads bobbing in & out of the water! Warning - you may get sea sick upon viewing the video!
After all that fun we drove up to Old Orchard Beach! It's the closest beach resembling Ocean City, New Jersey in New England. Unfortunately - it really didn't even come close. But we still had a great time. We walked the beach Friday night, had the infamous Pier Pizza, went to a restaurant called Myst for some awesome desserts and camped out over night. We went out for breakfast in the morning and got our tans on the beach until the early afternoon.
Then we drove out to the Biddeford Pools. It was beautiful! Look at how crystal clear the water is! We could have been there all day! I even was feeling like a kid when I was finding sea shells in the rocks! We had a great time.
